The Founding Vision of FidScapes
Philip Fidler embraced the FidScapes vision in 2008. Philip was working with several emergency homeless shelters at the time, in Greensboro, NC, and needed a supplemental source of income. He asked the question: "What can I do that I love, am good at, and will have fun doing?" The answer was "landscaping" and FidScapes was born.
Pastor Philip passed away unexpectedly January 2019, in his absence Kim struggled and needed help with the daily project management and customer relations. In May 2019 Doug Lassiter joined the team to help fill this gap.
The original vision to "empower people through the love of nature." remains foundational to this day in all we do.
Throughout the years, because of Pastor Philip's calling to inner city ministry and church planting, FidScapes relocated from Greensboro NC to Sumter SC, to Wake Forest NC, to Lexington, SC. Kim and Doug chose to move the business back to Wake Forest because of their love for dogs and connection with Saving Grace Animals for Adoption.
As previously mentioned, Create-A-Scape NC was formed when Kim Fidler (of FidScapes, Lexington, SC [Est 2008]) and Doug Lassiter (of Vacation Lawn Service, Knoxville, TN [Est 2005]) joined venture together and relocated to Wake Forest, NC May 2020. We quickly realized that our meeting was by no coincidence; we truly make a great team and started a new chapter in both our lives, with the formation of Create A Scape NC January 2021 and on May 15, 2021 we got married!!
Doug brings over 15 years of landscaping experience and is proficient in customer relations, plant/tree identification/care, professional and quality landscape maintenance, water features, as well as masonry and carpentry skills. As a U-Turn For Christ graduate, he has a passion to help people grow in their vocational skills as well as his walk with Christ. Doug uses this platform to come along side other men to lead and disciple them as we work.
Kim has a keen eye for design and continues to bring beauty and creativity to each project of the Create-A-Scape NC team. Her Dad, Gary Grandstaff, is one of the top 100 names in golf. She grew up around various exotic landscapes and golf course design, agronomy and horticulture. She learned a great deal from her Dad over the years regarding erosion control, designing with the natural terrain and using zone appropriate plants to achieve functional landscapes. Kim also studied interior design and while she loves the outdoors more, has transferred that creative talent into her love for nature to create beautiful yet functional landscapes and outdoor oasis' for every customer on every budget scale.
Finally, we should mention that Kim and Doug have a great love for dogs! They have six of their own. Since most of their customer have dogs, they are very mindful when landscaping for the furkids - and we don't mind it one bit if they supervise us while we work.
